Want to donate to the museum?

Monetary donations and donations of items and artifacts are what keep the Winnsboro Historical Museum operating towards our goal of preserving local history.

Preserving History, Together

At the museum, we believe that history is a gift, not a transaction. That is why we provide free admission to every visitor—ensuring our community’s story is accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances.

However, preserving these archives, maintaining our historic depot, and protecting local artifacts for future generations requires dedicated partners. When you choose to become a member, you aren't just making a donation; you are becoming a steward of history.

Preserving Winnsboro’s History: Our Donation Policy

The Winnsboro Historical Museum is dedicated to protecting the artifacts that tell our community’s story. To ensure every item is properly preserved and cataloged, we follow a strict intake process.

Step 1: Contact Us First

Before bringing any items to the museum, please contact us at (903) 347-2668 or info@winnsborotxmuseum.com

  • Please provide a brief description of the item.

  • If possible, include a photo and any information regarding its historical connection to Winnsboro.

  • This allows us to ensure we have the space and resources to care for the item before you make the trip.

Step 2: Donation Hours

Donations are accepted by appointment or during our official intake hours:

  • Wednesdays & Thursdays | 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

  • Note: Other times are available by appointment only.

Our Collection Guidelines

To protect our existing collection and manage our limited storage, we observe the following rules:

  • Local Connection: We primarily accept items with a direct historical link to Winnsboro and the surrounding area.

  • Health & Safety: For the safety of our staff and other artifacts, we cannot accept items with:

    • Mold, mildew, or heavy smoke/odor damage.

    • Signs of active pest infestation (moths, wood-boring beetles, etc.).

    • Hazardous materials, liquids, or munitions.

  • Large Furniture: Large items are considered on a case-by-case basis and must be approved via photo/description before arrival.

  • Duplicates & Restrictions: We may decline items already well-represented in our collection. We do not accept "restricted" gifts (items with donor-imposed conditions on display or use).

Unattended Drop-offs:

Items left at the door or on the porch will be considered abandoned and will be disposed of. Our weekend and tour volunteers are not authorized to accept donations.
