214 North Main

The history of 214 North Main Street spans over a century, evolving from a local grocery to a variety of retail and gallery spaces.


Early History & The Perry Era

  • 1899: The location originally housed a grocery store and a lunch counter.

  • 1904: The current building was constructed and initially served as a furniture store.

  • 1909: The site was used to sell dry goods, clothing, boots, and shoes.

  • 1915–1970: Perry Brothers Five & Dime occupied the building for many years. They moved to a new location at 304 North Main in October 1970.


Mid-to-Late 20th Century

  • 1970: Stringer's clothing store held its grand opening on November 5th, taking over the space formerly used by Perry's.

  • 1977: Stringer's continued operations at this address through at least March of 1977.

  • 1980–1981: Culp's occupied the building, also expanding into 212 North Main, with their final advertisement appearing in June 1981.

  • 1982: The location transitioned into art and framing, housing Sue's Custom Framing and Art in August, followed by K.B.N. Gallery and Custom Framing in October.

  • 1991: A business called "The Fun Machine" was located here when it suffered fire damage on April 20th.

  • 1994: Glass Impressions moved into the location during a late September/early October period.

  • 1996: Fashion Shoppe moved into the location in late September.


Modern Era

  • The Frame Shoppe had been located temporarily at 217 Market Street which was the backside of this building. It moved to this space in October 2007.

  • 2008–2011: Winnsboro Gallery opened in 2008.

  • Downtown Mobility later opened in 2011.

  • 2016: R Cinco Ranch opened its doors on July 2nd.

2019: Ani Oakli Clothing Company held its ribbon cutting on November 2nd.
